Definitions:

IATF Rules 6th Edition is a requirements document that is binding on all IATF recognized certification bodies, and their clients. The Rules 6th Edition explains the audit and certification process to achieve IATF 16949 certification or a Letter of Conformance (LOC). It is strongly encouraged that each organization to be in possession of the most recent copy of Rules 6th Edition.

You can purchase a copy of Rules 6th Edition here.

Additional Audit Time is defined as auditing activities that do not count towards the minimum audit days (e.g., verification of previous minor nonconformities, translation time, technical expert time, investigation of significant changes, investigation of IATF OEM quality and delivery performance issues, scope expansion impact, relocation impact, etc.). This additional audit time is determined by the certification body prior to each audit.

Apportionment Method takes the number of employees at each the standalone remote support location and apportions them to each manufacturing site, see Section 3.

Extended Manufacturing Site is defined as a location where manufacturing occurs, but the activities carried out in the location are managed together with another manufacturing site (called main manufacturing site). The main manufacturing site has expanded their manufacturing process(es) into one or more locations with different addresses from the main manufacturing site. The IATF Rules 6th Edition, section 1.1, has criteria to be met before a manufacturing site can be considered an extended manufacturing site. For the purpose of using this tool, you must enter the main manufacturing site and associated extended manufacturing site(s) together, along with their employees, as one manufacturing site in Section 1.

Manufacturing Site is defined as a location with a single physical address where manufacturing occurs that meets the eligibility criteria to be certified to IATF 16949 (refer to IATF Rules 6th Edition, section 1.0 for more details). If the manufacturing site does not meet the eligibility criteria it should be excluded from being entered in Section 1 of this tool. The manufacturing site may or may not receive support from another manufacturing site of the same organization or a standalone remote support location.

“Relevant” Employees for a Standalone Remote Support Location includes the number of employees supporting the manufacturing site's processes related to IATF 16949 certification.

Standalone Remote Support Location is defined as a location where one or more support functions (e.g., product design, purchasing, sales, warehousing, etc.) reside that provide support to a manufacturing site. A standalone remote support location has NO manufacturing within its location.

Total Number of Employees for a Manufacturing Site includes the total number of employees at the manufacturing site, its extended manufacturing site, any part-time, contract, temporary employees, and the average number of daily workers, if applicable. Where daily workers are utilized, the average number of daily workers in the previous six (6) month period shall be used.

Note: If the manufacturing site also makes non-automotive products, then those employees must also be included in the total number of employees unless the IATF Rules 5.2 h) is applied.
